The Best High Protein Dog Treat Recipe

Protein is just as important for dogs as it is for humans, if not more so. Protein can help with muscle growth and support as well as aid in weight loss with dogs, plus it tastes pretty good.

Here’s my favorite recipe:

High-Protein Chicken & Peanut Butter Dog Treats

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup cooked chicken (shredded)

  • 1/4 cup peanut butter (unsweetened, no xylitol)

  • 1/2 cup rolled oats (or oat flour if you prefer)

  • 1 large egg

  • 2-3 tablespoons chicken broth (low sodium, or water)

  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds (optional, for extra fiber and omega-3s)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. Shred the cooked chicken into small pieces or use a food processor to grind it finely.

  3. In a large bowl, combine the shredded chicken with peanut butter, egg, oats, and chia seeds (if using). Mix well until everything is evenly combined.

  4. Add the chicken broth or water slowly, 1 tablespoon at a time, until the dough is thick but can be easily rolled into balls.

  5. Form the dough into small balls, about 1-inch in diameter, and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

  6. Flatten the balls slightly with your fingers or a fork to form cookie-like shapes.

  7. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until the treats are firm and golden brown around the edges.

  8. Let the treats cool completely before serving them to your dog.

These treats are high in protein from the chicken and peanut butter, with a great texture from the oats and chia seeds. Enjoy making these simple, nutritious snacks for your pup!
